Extreme was a "funk metal" band formed in Boston in 1985-86 consisting of guitar virtuoso Nuno Bettencourt, singer/lyricist Gary Cherone, bassist Pat Badger and drummer Paul Geary (later replaced by drum god Mike Mangini). The band's influences range from the progressive hard rock and elaborate multi-vocals parts of Queen, as well as Beatlesque pop and touches of lounge jazz. Consequently, Extreme's music is never easy to classify; it's not just heavy metal, hard rock, or pop —their albums cover all of that territory with a sweeping ambition and a social consciousness to match. Although a hard rock band, it was the Everly Brothers-style acoustic ballad, "More Than Words," that crossed them over into the mainstream — it hit number one and the follow-up single, the acoustic-based pop rocker "Hole Hearted," hit number four. They released two albums in the hey day of glam metal but recieved diminished attention from the mainstream following the grungeexplosion following the release of Nirvana's "Nevermind"in 1991.

Our Father Lyrics

Extreme

Oh Daddy please
Take me with you, where you going
Oh Daddy please
Come find the time, come watch us growing

Oh Daddy please
Don't leave, there's so much that we want to know
before you go

I'm in need of someone to tie my shoe
or take hold of my hand when I become afraid
And whose footsteps will I follow into
Daddy please, don't run away

Our father
Far father
Our Father
Far father away

Oh Daddy please
I pray every night the doors will open
Oh Daddy please
This house is just a broken home, left all alone

I'm in need of someone to tie my shoe (Oh)
Or take hold of my hand when I become afraid (Ah)
And whose footsteps will I follow into
Daddy please,don't run away

Our father
Far father
Well,l et me tell you about our father
Far father away

A-daddy don't
A-daddy don't run away
Yeah!

(SOLO)

Yeah!

Whose footsteps will I follow into
Daddy please, don't run away

Our father
Far Father
Well, let's talk about our father
Yeah, yeah
Far father

You know I'm talking about our father
Far father away
Our father!
